Always be true to yourself...

Copyright 2009 Nancy Baumiller All Rights Reserved "Be True" Created on 8.5" x 11" cardstock

Many layers of journaling, paper, stamping! If you look you can see that I layered some paper collage images behind everything and when finished with my final journaling, I then added more imagery to finish the piece!

Materials used: cardstock, gesso, various pens, rubberstamps, ink, stencils, tissue clothes pattern, red tissue paper, imagery from a variety of places, some are vintage, some not so much!

I love how this came all together and with a quote from Shakespear "To Thine Ownself Be True." This piece came about when someone mentioned in a way that some of my past work was depressing. I agree! There was alot going on and had got me down....and for me to write it all down and get it out of my head is my way of dealing with stress...yes some of the words they said was hurtful, but honest and I appreciate that. They also told me that I was being too honest in my work and would get a bad reputation! Really?! If any of you know me at all...My thoughts are that I really don't give a hoot what people think of me! LOL And I feel if I am not being honest with myself...who am I to be honest to?! Those words however, pulled me right out of my slump and pushed me to move on and get off my pity party. LOL So in a way it was a good push in the right direction! Sooo to that person, if your reading this...I am ok with it...thank you for being honest with your thoughts! But I will remain who I am and just be myself for me and no one else!

With that said....lol I am good to go from this point on! :O)

Wishing you a happy and creative day!

Much Love and Hugs!

xoxo

  1. Nancy, Journals are meant to heal, as much as anything else, and you can never be too honest. I find your work incredibly beautiful and inspiring in ALL your moods, and nothing could be further from depressing. In fact, your art is always uplifting to me because of its candor, not in spite of it!

  2. OH MY FRICKING GOSH! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I swear we are sharing a brain. I just spent all day working on a piece, ssstttrrruuuugggglllleeeeed with it, and it all started with embracing the idea of being Odd and finally this afternoon I came up with the same exact words. I swear on a stack of bibles I did not see your work until just now! I cannot believe it! What are the chances? I think this is the second time we have shown up in the same dress. I am so behind on blogging, I swore as soon as I finished a piece today I would start my overdue visits and have been working the last couple of hours doing that and got here and saw this! Amazing coincidence! I am so embarrassed though! It's like showing up to the prom in the exact same dress as someone else only I got there last! Oh my, . . .

Your piece is lovely and amazing as always. I have to go soak this in and finish peeking around your other blog stuff I've missed. I'm sorry, Nancy. I swear I am not trying to copy you! Holy smokes!

  3. I love the new series! I can't believe that someone told you that you'd get a "bad reputation"...because you pour your soul into your work? If it doesn't come from the heart then it's not worth creating.
